Vintage Gold-Tone Disc Clip Earrings By Robert Lee Morris
These gorgeous satiny discs in gold-tone metal are an iconic reminder of the 1980s power jewellery. Endlessly wearable and versatile, these stylish clip earrings immediately grab the attention with their endless shine, mirror-like texture, and streamlined design. They are signed RLM SOHO after Robert Lee Morris, an avid costume jewellery supporter and designer whose award-winning work began in true 1960s style.
After opening a craft commune, Morris learned jewellery making with an easy-to-follow book. He got a hammer and wire, built a workshop in a shed and learned metalworking to the tunes of Led Zeppelin. When the shed burnt down, Morris sold his jewellery at craft fairs, where he was discovered by an art dealer. In this unlikely setting, he opened his Artwear Gallery in 1977 and later moved to Soho, where his “modern urban warrior pieces” attracted a celebrity clientele, including Cher, Madonna, and Janet Jackson. Morris collaborated with notable names like Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Karl Lagerfeld, as well as Donna Karan for her first collection in 1985. The organic shape of these big round clip earrings perfectly exemplifies his oversized, sculptural gold jewellery that matched Karan’s sleek, luxurious fashions around the time of their making. Effortlessly stylish and bold, they will upgrade even the dullest outfit.
