Blackamoor Gold Gemstone Ring With Amethyst, Opal And Diamonds
A captivating and unusual late 20th-century gemstone ring with a substantial presence that’s sure to make a lasting impression. This exquisite statement piece features an articulated blackamoor face carved from amethyst, with a minor crack at the top that we believe adds a special charm to the ring. Artfully rendered in textured 18ct yellow gold, the turban is adorned with striking-colour fire opal and turquoise cabochons, while the collar is further embellished with six single-cut diamonds. Sinuous flutes decorate the gold shank for a refined finishing touch. Blackamoor jewellery is highly collectable and dates back to 16th-century Venice, often found in collections of aristocratic Venetians. The Moors were noble Middle-Eastern knights of Al-Andalus who came from Arab Spain to Italy and forged commercial relations with Venetians. These jewels were fashioned to honour these proud and well-respected men of the wealthy merchant class and were highly prized. Blackamoors are a typical expression of old Venetian jewellery and were mostly worn by people of means and money, with icons like Grace Kelly, Liz Taylor, and Elton John sporting them in more recent years. Strikingly stunning and decidedly different, this blackamoor gemstone ring is guaranteed to steal the show and spark conversations.
